A 48-year-old man is facing a handful of charges following a break and enter late Tuesday night near the downtown core.
As well, the 66-year-old homeowner has been arrested and charged with separate weapons offences.
Investigators say a suspect broke into a home on Queens Avenue, at the corner of Elizabeth Street, at roughly 11p.m.
A fight ensued between the 48-year-old suspect and the 66-year-old homeowner, who was awake at the time.
“It’s believed that both the accused and the victim were not known to each other,” said London Police Constable Ken Steeves.
The victim was able to escape to a neighbour’s home, where he called 911.
When London Police arrived, they discovered the suspect was still inside the home, so officers secured the area.
The investigation led to several road closures in the Queens Avenue, Elizabeth Street, Dundas and Adelaide Street areas.
After a standoff, the suspect was arrested.
Both the suspect and the victim were taken to hospital for non-life-threatening injuries; they have since been released.
Inside the home, police allegedly found a Remington 870 Pump Action shot gun along with 28 rounds of ammunition.
As a result of the investigation, London Police say they’ve charged 48-year-old Myron Ireland, of no fixed address, with one count of break and enter, two counts of assault with a weapon, and one count of resisting arrest.
Officers say 66-year-old Peter Athanasakos has also been charged with careless storage of a firearm and careless storage of ammunition.
