London city council won’t get behind Toronto Mayor David Miller in calling for a complete ban on handguns.
By a vote of 12 to five today, council instead supported the federal law, which allows handguns to be owned legally for use at registered gun clubs and sporting events. The vote came despite an emotional appeal by Coun. David Winninger, who said legally-owned handguns have been used in acts of domestic violence, including a recent notorious London case, the murder of school teacher Angela Sedore.
“I won’t feel I have it on my conscience the next time a handgun is used in another act of domestic violence.”
