self defense

Well, what the hell can you expect? And don’t even bother giving me any of that”the police will protect you” claptrap.  Sure, the Mounties keep saying, “let us do our jobs,” but when you’re 50 miles north of no-damn-where, cops can take up to an hour – or more – before they even show up (Googling “Saskatchewan police response time” is a rather depressing endeavor).  What is the victim expected to do in the meantime?  Do the Mounties actually think they want a vast landscape where the strong do what they can and the weak endure what they must?

Just one more in the long line of examples of why our country’s gun and self-defense laws are in dire need of some serious changes.

Saskatchewan farmers take up arms after masked men enter land

by Joe O’Connor
National Post

Barry Kidd understands that you just can’t go around “shooting people,” but he also knows that what is his, is his, and that he works hard, and that people coming onto his farm in rural Saskatchewan and looking to steal something — or worse — are people he is not about to back down from.

“Most farmers are armed in the field,” Kidd says. “It has always been that way for us — you don’t want a skunk to go through your Combine since, when you ask a skunk to move, he won’t — so for that reason we have always carried guns.

“But now that has been added to something altogether different: We have guns. We carry guns, and we want the criminals to know it.”

New Study: More Carry Permits = Less Crime

NRA/ILAby NRA-ILA

new study by the Crime Prevention Research Center (CPRC) finds that the number of people with concealed firearm carry permits has reached an all-time high, and that increasing the number of permit-holders is associated with a decrease in murder and total violent crime.

The study notes that the number of carry permit-holders has increased most sharply during the Obama administration, from 4.6 million in 2007 to over 12.8 million currently. Furthermore, coinciding with Pew Research Center polling finding that support for gun ownership and opposition to gun control is increasing among young people, minorities and women, the CPRC study found that carry permits are increasing more among minorities than among whites, and more among women than among men. Both sets of findings contradict gun control supporters’ claim that gun ownership is confined to elderly white males. Continue reading »

My first (and hopefully last) post about religion

Gun Owners’ Resource

By now, you’ve no doubt heard the whole turd typhoon that has erupted over what His Holiness Pope Francis said (or rather, what it’s being made to look like he said) while speaking to a rally of thousands of Catholic youth in Turin, Italy.  According to plenty of MSM – and other, more fringe – sources, the Pope supposedly said that you can’t own a gun and be Christian.  Cue the Catholic-bashers and defenders of the faith to both come out of the woodwork.

The problem is that – as is all too common when the secular, gun-grabbing MSM writes about Christianity or RKBA – he didn’t say what they’re saying he said.  Colour me surprised. Continue reading »

Handgun Ban Group Validates Right-to-Carry

icon_nrailaby NRA/ILA staff

Call the Violence Policy Center VPC something of an exception to the rule.

Other anti-gun groups at least pretend to have abandoned their goal of banning only handguns by legislation or regulation, in favor of a campaign to turn the American people against the “gun” culture, “gun nuts,” the “gun industry,” having “guns” at home, the “gun” lobby, the mere mention of “guns” at school, and so on. scc-logoIt’s nice, every now and then, to see that the entire MSM doesn’t have their craniums heaved up their gun-control colons.  The Las Vegas Review-Journal, for example, isn’t buying the gun-grabber propaganda.  Especially when it comes to the La-LaLand notion of “gun free zones” — a steaming heap of cosmetic placebo that has never saved so much as a single life.  Arming yourself, on the other hand, is the most effective method of keeping yourself and those around you safe.  Period.

But that doesn’t fit the MSM/gun-grabber narrative, does it?  There’s a reason why you’ve never heard about the shooting that happened at the Appalachian School of Law in 2002 (care to guess what it is?)

Law-abiding citizens shouldn’t be defenseless on college campuses

LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL

Since the mass shooting at Virginia Tech in 2007, in which 32 students and faculty members were killed and an additional 17 were wounded, gun-rights activists have pushed to allow concealed carry on college campuses. Unfortunately, that push has been widely lambasted by the media and ignored by lawmakers and higher education officials — while shootings in gun-free zones continue at schools large and small.
